CURRENTLY LISTENING: No Goodbyes by Gleemer

The amazing New York record label 80N7 just released this gem on their bandcamp and I fell pretty hard for it. Within the first few hazy acoustic tones of “Workout”, you might think you have Gleemer pegged as another folky singer-songwriter outfit. You’d be wrong. Sure some of the lyrics verge on sentimental, but backed by their versatile structures, extremely tasteful percussion and gorgeous, spacey effects, Gleemer introduces a certain complexity to its songs while keeping their melodies accessible. Perhaps my favorite, “Shoulder Pads”, is the best representation of this—interesting structural changes accompanied by unwavering beauty in the chord progression and vocals. There isn’t a bad song on this EP and you need to listen to it—I mean—buy it now.
